DRIED FRUIT
Dehydrated fruits are nutritious and healthy although they lose a few of their nutrients. They can be eaten alone as snacks used as salad toppings or used in various dishes. Perhaps what most of us don’t know is that virtually all fruits can be dehydrated for future use.
INGREDIENTS
-
Any fruit of choice. That is all!
HOW TO DRY FRUIT
-
I try to slice all my fruit the same size. I used a mandolin for this. Smaller fruit I leave whole.
-
Unless this is a stones fruit like cherries I leave pips etc. in. I am too lazy to remove these and most fall out on their own.
-
Place your slices on your dehydrator trays/racks. Be sure not to overcrowd them.
-
Fruit all his is own drying temperature. As a rule is stick to a range around 50°. Higher temperatures may cause the outside of the vegetable to harden while the inside remains moist, causing spoilage.
-
How long it will take to dehydrate depends on several factors. The higher the humidity in the air, the longer it will take fruit to dry. Your weather forecast is one way to determine humidity. An indoor humidity monitor is another.
-
Once the conditioning process is over, you should have fully dried fruits ready for consumption. Just remember to always put your containers on a dry, cool place away from sunlight so they remain fresh for as long as possible. I shake my jars regularly to check for moisture. If I find any are sticking to the sides, I pop back into the dehydrator.
